Updata Partners exited portfolio company, Softek, when it was acquired by
IBM earlier this year. The company is now part of the Storage and Data
Services business unit within IBM Global Technology Services. This
strategic acquisition for IBM reflects the industry’s competitive trend to
create high-margin services offerings through a combination of software,
hardware and consulting services. According to IBM's announcement on
the acquisition, "...IBM is assembling the most complete and unified data
mobility offerings and worldwide delivery expertise for managing data in storage
array, host, and virtualized information technology (IT) environments. "
As noted in a recent IBM announcement, Gartner has positioned IBM as a
leader in its Gartner Magic Quadrant for Storage Resource Management.
